How do I put it on? How-to

I thought gentle leaders were like a muzzle for dogs that bite? No, in fact, dogs that bite can still absolutely do so when wearing a gentle leader as this is NOT what it is designed for. It is more like a halter that a horse wears when they are being led around. Harmless, gentle, and still allows them to eat, drink, play, pant, and even bite.

What if my dog doesn't like it? Introduce it slowly and positively, giving treats while letting your pup sniff it first. Don't keep it on long at first. Don't have it too tight at first either. Put it on, reward, take it off. Repeat. Then, slowly tighten to the correct fitting, reward each step. If your dog starts rubbing against things or pawing at their nose, distract them with yummy treats and give their nuzzle a scratch, it can be itchy at first.

Should I use it alone or with a leash attached to a collar or harness too? I like to use only the Gentle Leader for most situations. If the nose loop happens to slip down their nose, or they paw it off, the head collar part is still intact and will act like a normal collar. If an owner is unsure about this or feels more comfortable having a second leash clipped to another loop like the collar or harness, that's fine too!

Vests:
Though they're not necessary, I like these for a variety of purposes. It's easy to put on velcro patches to display when our pups are in training or other indicators such as ask to pet me I'm friendly, please don't approach, in training, deaf, blind, etc.

(But, we don't want to buy these vests and falsely label them as service dogs, therapy dogs, or other official titles that those working canines work very hard to earn.)
